Community Garden
The community garden has been evolving over the last couple
of years and continues to grow. This project has seen a diverse
range of residents join together to work on planning, building
and maintaining the garden. The Villawood Community Development
Worker works with the gardeners to co-ordinate meetings and
working bees and seeks funding, and resources for the garden.
The garden is strongly supported by the Bankstown Department
of Housing, The Royal Botanic Trust Sydney-Community Greening
Project, Villawood Bunnings Warehouse, SWSAHS-Running on Empty
Project and Bankstown Council to name a few organisations.
Women Offering Wellbeing 2 Women (WOW 2 )
Woodville Community Services is a partner on this network
which began as an offshoot of Fairfield Immigrant & Refugee
Women’s Network (FIRWN). This group attends the Villawood
Immigration & Detention Centre fortnightly for a women’s
relaxation and well being session. We provide beauty, massage,
craft and jewellery activities. The group includes services
and community volunteers who assist in the direct service
and in providing donations for the women.
Safety
Woodville Community Services works in partnership with agencies
such as Fairfield City Council, Fairfield Police and the
Villawood Safety Committee to provide information, education,
activities and events based on improving residents’ sense
of safety.
Domestic Violence
Woodville Community Services Inc. is active in promoting
non-violent, healthy relationships through the dispersal of
information, organising community events and supporting many
domestic violence projects. WCS is an active member of the
Fairfield Domestic Violence Committee.
Villawood Singers
An inspirational group of women who love to sing meet every
week at WCS. They have become well known in the area and invited
to sing at numerous community events. They have even performed
at the Opera House which many described as a dream like experience.
Relaxation & Aromatherapy Group
Weekly
sessions held for women to learn relaxation techniques including
massage & aromatherapy. These sessions are facilitated
by an experienced therapist and are a wonderful opportunity
to meet people and learn new skills in a relaxing environment.
Carer Activities
Woodville Community Services Inc recognises and values the role of Carers, who care for a member of their family who may have additional support needs, mental health issue, disability or who may be frail aged. We run activities such as the Carers Pamper Days, picnics, harbour cruises, computer training, etc. This is an opportunity for Carers to come along and meet other Carers and enjoy a day of respite from the caring role.
